If you are choosing a ring, a chain or a pair of earrings you plan to wear every day, the karat matters as much as the design. The two most popular choices for fine jewelry are 14K and 18K gold. Both are solid gold. They simply balance color, strength and price differently.
14K gold is the better choice for everyday jewelry. It is harder, more scratch resistant and more affordable. 18K gold has a deeper, richer yellow and is a lovely choice for pieces worn on special occasions, or for people with very sensitive skin.
Gold purity is measured out of 24 karats. 14K gold is stamped 585 and 18K gold is stamped 750. The rest of the alloy is made of other metals, such as silver and copper, that make the gold stronger and set its color.
| 14K (585) | 18K (750) | |
|---|---|---|
| Color | Warm, classic yellow | Deeper, richer yellow |
| Hardness | Harder, resists scratches and dents | Softer, shows wear sooner |
| Best for | Rings, chains, hoops, bracelets worn daily | Occasion pieces, bridal, pendants |
| Price | More affordable | Higher, because it contains more gold |
| Sensitive skin | Comfortable for most people | Slightly lower risk of reactions |
Pure gold is soft. The more gold an alloy contains, the softer it is. That is why 18K rings pick up scratches and lose their crisp edges faster, and why prongs and thin chains in 18K need more care.
A ring is the hardest-working piece of jewelry you own. It knocks against desks, door handles and car keys every day. A 14K band keeps its shape and its edges for longer, which is why so many wedding bands and stacking rings are made in 14K.

18K gold has a warmer, more saturated yellow. 14K gold is slightly softer in tone and looks classic next to almost any skin tone. If you mix your jewelry, 14K pieces stack well with each other and with older family pieces.
Most people who react to cheap jewelry are reacting to nickel or to the base metal under plating. Solid 14K yellow gold is comfortable for the vast majority of people. If you know you are extremely sensitive, 18K, with its higher gold content, carries a slightly lower risk.
In Türkiye, traditional bangles and wedding gold are often made in 22K (stamped 916). It has a beautiful deep color, but it is far too soft for delicate chains, prong settings or rings worn every day. For modern fine jewelry, 14K is the practical standard.
We make every piece in solid 14K gold, stamped 585, because our jewelry is designed to be worn every day, not saved for special occasions. Hoops you can sleep in, chains you never take off and rings that keep their shape.

Yes. 14K gold is solid gold, stamped 585. It is an alloy of gold with other metals that make it strong enough for everyday jewelry.
No. Solid 14K gold keeps its color. It may lose some of its polish with wear, which a jeweler can restore at any time.
For a ring worn every day, 14K is the practical choice because it resists scratches and holds stones securely. 18K is beautiful but shows wear sooner.
Both are comfortable for most people. If you know you react to many metals, 18K yellow gold, with its higher gold content, carries a slightly lower risk.
