How to choose a solid 14K gold necklace
Start with three questions: what the pendant means to you or the person receiving it, how long the chain should sit, and whether it will be worn alone or layered. Every necklace on this page is solid 14K gold stamped 585, so the choice is about style and fit rather than metal quality.
Pick a pendant with a reason behind it
Most of our necklaces carry a symbol. Faith pieces include plain polished crosses, two-tone and white gold crucifixes, anchors and cross station chains. Good luck and protection pieces include four leaf clovers, the 3D elephant with its trunk up, hamsa hands and several evil eye designs, from a green enamel pebble to a blue pave medallion. If you want to know what the nazar stands for before you buy, read our guide to the Turkish evil eye. For birthstone gifts there are bezel set turquoise, an emerald color pear pendant for May, a ruby color pendant for July and a garnet color teardrop for January; each listing states exactly which stone is used.
Get the length right
Length changes how a pendant reads. A short chain keeps a small charm near the collarbone, while a longer one lets a larger pendant such as the sword, compass or large starfish hang with some weight. Our dainty cable chain adjusts from 35 to 45 cm, which covers most everyday positions. If you are unsure, our necklace length guide shows where each length falls.
Plan for layering
Mix one statement chain, such as the wheat chain or the graduated bar fringe, with one or two fine pendants. Keep each strand a few centimeters apart so they do not tangle, and combine textures (a paperclip chain next to a smooth cable chain) rather than two of the same. Our article on how to layer necklaces walks through combinations. Looking for a name or initial instead of a symbol? See our personalized gold jewelry.
Stones and care
Where a necklace sparkles, the stones are usually cubic zirconia (CZ), and the listing says so plainly. CZ is a lab-made stone, not a diamond. "Diamond-cut" describes a faceted metal finish that catches light. Solid 14K gold does not peel, and simple soap and warm water is enough to keep it bright.
Frequently asked questions
Are your necklaces solid gold or plated?
Every necklace is solid 14K gold stamped 585, chain and pendant alike. We never sell plated, gold-filled, vermeil or semi-hollow pieces.
Are the stones real diamonds?
No. Most sparkling stones are cubic zirconia and are labeled as CZ. Any natural stone is named as natural on its listing.
Which chain length should I choose?
For a small pendant worn daily, a length near the collarbone suits most people. Check the length options on each listing, or message us and we will help you choose.
Can I wear my gold necklace in the shower?
Solid 14K gold handles water well. Soap and shampoo can leave a film over time, so rinse and dry it now and then to keep the shine.
