How to choose a natural gemstone necklace in solid 14K gold

Choose a natural stone necklace by color first, then by size and cut, then by meaning. Our natural stone pieces pair a genuine gemstone with a solid 14K gold setting stamped 585, and the listing names the stone as natural so there is no guessing.

What we offer

This collection is small and focused. The blue topaz necklace carries a 21.5ct cushion cut faceted stone, a large pendant with a clear, cool blue that reads well from a distance. The amethyst necklace uses a 10ct natural teardrop stone in purple, the February birthstone. Both are statement-size stones, which means they sit best on their own rather than in a crowded layer.

Natural stone or cubic zirconia?

Most of our other pieces use cubic zirconia (CZ), a lab-made stone that is bright and consistent. A natural stone is mined, so each one has its own slight variations in color and clarity, and that is part of its character. We label every stone plainly: natural when it is natural, CZ when it is CZ, and never diamond. For a fuller comparison of lab-made and natural stones, see diamond vs cubic zirconia.

Choosing by meaning and occasion

Many buyers choose a stone for its birthstone month or its traditional associations. Amethyst suits a February birthday, and blue topaz is often given as a December birthstone. Our gemstone meanings guide and birthstone jewelry gift guide explain the traditions. If you are looking for other birthstone colors in CZ or bezel set turquoise, browse our gold necklaces.

Wearing and caring for a large stone

Large faceted stones look their best on a chain long enough to let the pendant hang freely below the collarbone. Take the necklace off before swimming, cleaning or exercise to avoid knocks. Clean the stone and setting with warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft brush, then dry with a lint-free cloth. Store it separately so harder stones do not scratch other jewelry.

Frequently asked questions

Are these stones really natural?

Yes. Pieces in this category use natural stones, and each listing names the stone, such as natural amethyst or blue topaz.

Is the setting solid gold?

Yes. The setting, bail and chain are solid 14K gold stamped 585.

Will my stone look exactly like the photo?

Natural stones vary slightly in tone and inclusions, so small differences are normal. Message us if you would like more detail before ordering.

Can I wear a natural stone necklace every day?

You can, with some care. Remove it for sports, swimming and household cleaning to protect the stone from knocks and chemicals.
